“Cross-culturalism” is a major feature of the fashion industry in 2024. As globalization accelerates, cultural elements from different countries and regions collide and merge with each other in fashion design. This cross-cultural exchange not only enriches the connotation of fashion, but also enables each individual to find their own unique expression in fashion.
ETRO
Etro’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection is full of comfort and the sanctity of exotic countries. Designer Marco de Vincenzo fuses cultures and styles from around the world into his fashion designs, subverting the conventional rationality and rules, and presenting the brand’s iconic prints in a more varied mix and match fashion, and through the close-to-the-skin streamlined cuts, the modeling better echoes the season’s theme of cultural fusion. The theme of the season is cultural fusion.
Paisley cashew flower pattern as the brand’s classic iconic elements became the theme of the show installations, the use of recycled old newspapers made of pulp, through the complicated process made of Paisley relief columns standing in the show, with a natural texture highlighting the rustic national culture theme.
BALMAIN
African cultural elements are constantly used in fashion design, and the “exotic” African style provides designers with endless imagination with its highly ethnic patterns and bright colors. As a fresh and rich source of inspiration, African style is being integrated into the mainstream of fashion design, releasing its potential value in the changing trends.
Designer Oliver Rousteing’s work this season expresses his concerns and thoughts about the impact of global warming and its consequences. By utilizing many eco-friendly materials (paper, wicker, bark) as raw materials for his work, he expresses the sustainability of fashion. At the same time, the season’s artistic value is enriched by a multitude of cross-cultural elements, including Renaissance paintings, traditional weaving techniques, and astronomical accessories. The designers continue to innovate, responding to current issues with high-level manufacturing techniques and presenting works of profound and artistic value.
GIVENCHY
Givenchy Spring/Summer 2023 collection was held at the Botanical Garden in Paris. Creative Director Matthew M. Williams revisited the archives of founder Hubert deGivenchy, and did not forget the pursuit of American diversity as an American, reorganizing the French style with American style. Matthew M. Williams sees the collection as a multicultural fusion of beauty and modern American-French fashion.
OFF-WHITE
Off-White’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection is inspired by the interplay of cultures: the world’s cultures resonate with each other, and there is an uncanny commonality between them. This intersection of cultures led Artistic Director lbrahim Kamara to consider the extent to which black culture has influenced American and Western culture. Like the evolution of musical forms such as jazz and hip-hop, cultures have blended to create the colorful cultural landscape that exists today.
This season’s ready-to-wear is a playful tribute to this enduring interaction of cultural influences. For lbrahim Kamara, the show was like a game board where different cultures collide and merge, inspiring participants to explore culture and fashion in depth.
In this era, no matter whether it is the simple style of pursuing comfort and nature, the street style of expressing individuality, or the vintage style of sophistication and elegance, all of them can find their own place in this diversified world. Because in this era, there is no absolute popularity, only unlimited possibilities.
